My interest in glassblowing is almost solely utilitarian. I don't want to make fancy glass pipes or vases or anything. I just want to make scientific apparatus. This discipline, also called "lampworking," is one of those archaic trades that one can basically only learn as an apprentice, or by self-instruction. I don't have time for a proper apprenticeship, so I'm taking the latter route.
